World Water Day 2026: Scaling Safe Drinking Water in Rural Senegal with Non-Electric Chlorination Solutions
Access to safe drinking water remains one of the most pressing challenges for rural communities worldwide. In many regions, water is available — but not safe to drink, due to bacteriological contamination. This is why chlorination remains the most reliable, scalable and cost-effective method recommended by the WHO for community-level water safety.
In the Kaolack and Kaffrine regions of Senegal, 270 villages are now benefiting from safer water thanks to the deployment of 270 DOSATRON non-electric dosing pumps, installed as part of the PAEMIR rural water supply program supported by the World Bank.

A Proven, Sustainable Solution for Rural Water Safety
Working in partnership with SAHE, our long-standing local collaborator, Dosatron deployed:
- 200 D30WL5000AF units
- 70 D90WL5000AF units
Installed directly on borehole pipelines, these hydraulic pumps provide continuous and proportional dosing of sodium hypochlorite, ensuring a consistent chlorine residual that meets WHO recommendations for safe drinking water.
Because they operate without electricity, DOSATRON pumps are ideally suited for rural, remote or hard-to-access areas where electric dosing systems are unreliable, costly to maintain, or simply impossible to install.
This approach directly supports the PAEMIR program’s goal of equitable access to safe drinking water and contributes to SDG 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Reliable, Low-Tech and Sustainable by Design
Our non-electric proportional dosing pumps are designed for:
- Operational reliability in areas with unstable infrastructure
- Long-term sustainability with minimal maintenance
- Cost-effective deployment across large rural networks
- Energy-free operation, reducing both carbon footprint and OPEX

Impact: Safe Water, Every Day
Thanks to this installation, thousands of households now access water that is not only available, but safe to drink — every day. The project demonstrates how simple and robust technologies can accelerate progress toward universal safe water access in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6.
