Best Practices: Decommissioning Your Dosatron for Maintenance

Customer service representative

SAFETY IS THE BEST POLICY WHEN IT COMES TO PREPARING YOUR DOSATRON TO SEND IN FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

Before shipping your injector into the Clearwater, Florida Service center, carefully decommission your Dosatron unit(s). Remember that the chemicals used are dangerous, so before you do anything, read the relevant Safety Data Sheets that correspond to the substances you are using. Make sure you understand what action to take in the case of an accidental chemical splash or spill.

Next, ensure that you are wearing appropriate safety equipment including, but not limited to, eye protection, skin protection/safety apron, and gloves of proper material. If you have questions, ask your supervisor, engineering support, or call Dosatron at 1-800-523-8499.

How to Decommission Your Dosatron

  • Part A is how to take your OPERATIONAL Dosatron offline and prepare to ship
  • Part B is how to prepare your NON-OPERATIONAL Dosatron for shipping

PART A - PREPARING OPERATIONAL DOSATRON:

Before starting, have one open container filled with water nearby.

  1. Remove the suction tube from the chemical
  2. Insert the suction tube into a container of water
  3. Run water through the unit for several minutes to clear the chemical from the unit — NOTE: This is important for two reasons, Safety, and Shipping
  4. Turn off the water supply at the inlet side and allow water to drain out of the outlet side through a hose, faucet, valve, etc.
  5. Depending on the installation, you might want to shut off the nearest valve to the unit on the outlet side
  6. Remove the suction hose and reattach the nut (leave the clamp on the hose if you have a viscous [V] model)
  7. Take the Dosatron offline. The water should drain out of the unit, be aware of potential splashes
  8. Rock the unit back and forth into the bucket to help remove as much water as possible
  9. The Dosatron is now ready to be packaged and shipped; please follow the instructions provided by our customer service team
  10. Before sending in your Dosatron, contact customer service at 1-800-523-8499 for a Return Authorization Number, shipping instructions, and questionnaire. Include a note in the box with the following information:
    • Date of purchase or installation
    • Type of installation
    • Application
    • Name of chemical injected
    • Type of chemical
    • SDS
    • Contact name, email, and phone number

PART B - PREPARING NON-OPERATIONAL DOSATRON:

NOTE: Special care is required to strictly adhere to the safety precautions. In this case, it is not possible to perform steps 1, 2, and 3 (see above), therefore you aren't able to run water through the injector before removing.

Before starting, have one open container filled with water and one empty container nearby.

  1. Turn off the water supply at the inlet side
  2. Allow the water to drain on the outlet side through a hose, faucet, valve, etc.
  3. Depending on the installation, you might want to shut off the nearest valve to the unit on the outlet side
  4. Remove the suction hose and reattach nut (leave the clamp on the hose if you have a viscous [V] model)
  5. Take the Dosatron offline. Using the empty bucket, be very cautious draining the chemical and water out of the unit, being aware of potential splashes
  6. You may need to rock the unit back and forth over the bucket to drain as much chemical and water out as possible
  7. Now remove the injection stem. If you need assistance, call customer service at 1-800-523-8499
  8. CAUTION: The chemical in the stem hasn't mixed with water, protect yourself from splashes as you pour the chemical into the empty bucket.
  9. Rinse the parts in the bucket filled with clean water (there is no need to reassemble the injector, place loose parts in a plastic bag)
  10. The Dosatron is now ready to be packaged and shipped; please follow the instructions provided by our customer service team
  11. Before sending in your Dosatron, contact customer service at 1-800-523-8499 for a Return Authorization Number, shipping instructions, and questionnaire. Include a note in the box with the following information:
    • Date of purchase or installation
    • Type of installation
    • Application
    • Name of chemical injected
    • Type of chemical
    • SDS
    • Contact name, email, and phone number
