Vaccination via Dosatron dosing pump is the ideal, simple and rapid solution for vaccines* administered in drinking water during

post-weaning:

  • Lawsonia (ileitis),
  • E-Coli,
  • Erysipelas,
  • Salmonella.

or finishing:

  • Lawsonia (Hemorrhagic form of ileitis).

The technique of vaccinating pigs via drinking water does, however, require certain rules to be observed in order to guarantee vaccine efficacy (please refer to the documents and training on good vaccination practices).

This preventive approach is perfectly in line with efforts to reduce the use of antibiotics.

*Always respect veterinary prescription and local legislation regarding authorized treatments and vaccines.

The advantages of Dosatron Technology*

Dosatron dosing pumps advantages for an optimal vaccine administration via drinking water:

  • precise and consistent dosing of the vaccine solution, regardless of frequent variations in pressure and pig water consumption,
  • the dose and homogeneity of water + vaccine will remain constant and uniform thanks to high-quality dynamic mixing into the pump motor (please refer to Dosatron D25AL range),
  • water powered (non-electric: no need for additional power source),
  • plug and play mobile kit possible for vaccination of targeted groups (rooms),
  • also works with gravity pressure (header tanks),
  • self-priming.

The Dosatron technology will ensures that animals have equal access to the right amount of vaccine at all times and that the vaccine solution is evenly distributed at each drinker.

The above factors are very important bearing in mind that:

  • the pig vaccination last only few hours,
  • a piglet drinks for a few minutes a day only,
  • the number of visits and the time spent at the drinker also vary.

Furthermore, administering vaccines via the drinking water saves time. With the Dosatron dosing pumps, the entire vaccination process can be completed within a few hours thus minimizing labor, contamination risk by the staff, broken niddles and stress on the animals.

The dosing percentage of the pump is easy to read and to adjust.

They can be run empty (without additives) without risk of damage or interrupting the water supply to the animals. They are quick and easy to maintain on-site.

Dosatron works closely with partners from all over the world to hold regular seminars and develop specialized tools (videos and training materials on vaccination techniques).

*Dosatron performance in accordance with the European Medicine Agency's 2020 recommendations (EMA/CVMP/508559/2019 - Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use - ANNEX II)

  1. Dosatron Animal Health dosing pump D25AL or DIA4AL (a high dosing percentage of up to 4% or 5% is recommended to reduce vaccine doses lost at the end of the tank > a higher dosing percentage = higher vaccine dilution).
  2. 80 micron filter.
  3. Water meter.
  4. Bypass valves.

  5. Pressure reducer.

  6. 2 Valves / Taps (1 before the Dosatron for tank filling / cleaning and 1 after Dosatron for fast priming / flushing / testing).
  7. Dilution tank for vaccination only (smaller than the multi purpose mixing tank used for all other treatments).

Tips for Installing, Using and Maintaining your Dosatron

  • Install an 80-micron filter before the dosing pump (option for vaccinations : use an activated carbon filter to stop biocides and pollutants thus protecting the vaccine stability).
  • Install an accurate low-flow water meter (Class C - R500) to monitor your water consumption.
  • If installed on a drinking water main line, you must ensure that your installation complies with the applicable disconnection standards (non-return system such as Class B disconnectors).
  • Install the Dosatron in bypass on the water supply with 2 valves / taps before and after the Dosatron.
    • 1 valve / tap for clear water.
    • 1 valve / tap for quick rinsing / priming / testing of the dosing pump.
  • Use a graduated tank designed to limit residues at the end of vaccination (tank for vaccinations only).
  • Always rinse injecting clear water after each treatment / vaccination.
  • A high dosing percentage (4% or more) will help dilute the vaccine doses and limit waste at the end of the vaccination cycle.
  • Make sure that your drinkers are correctly adjusted (in terms of pressure / flow rate) and do the sanitation of your drinking water system during depopulation (empty barn).
  • Test your water twice a year (winter / summer or dry season / rainy season)
  • Remember to change the seals from the dosing part at least once a year.
  • Follow the rules on stopping and / or inhibiting biocides used for water disinfection to protect your vaccinations
